Overview In this Director of Payroll role, you will lead NYPA's payroll function across multiple sites and union groups to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant biweekly pay. You'll manage a payroll team, drive continuous improvements, and safeguard data integrity and regulatory compliance. You will optimize payroll systems and oversee integrations with Workday, SAP, and ADP, collaborating with IT, HR, and external partners. This position offers a chance to shape processes, strengthen capabilities, and contribute to NYPA's financial integrity and employee experience. Responsibilities- Lead and manage a payroll team (3+ supervisees) to balance workloads and develop staff
- Maintain and optimize payroll systems and integrations (Workday, SAP, ADP)
- Ensure accurate biweekly payroll processing and tax reporting
- Oversee data validation, controls, and compliance with federal, state, local laws and union contracts
- Coordinate with IT, outside vendors, HR and regulatory bodies (IRS, SSA, NYS Tax Authority) to resolve issues and ensure timely reporting
Key requirements- Bachelor in Accounting or related field
- Minimum 7 years automated payroll processing for large, multi-site, multi-union organization
- Minimum 3 years supervisory experience
- Payroll professional certification or equivalent
- Expert knowledge of payroll processing, tax laws, and employment regulations
- Experience with ERP systems and payroll integrations (e.g., Workday, SAP, ADP)
- Strong communication and project management skills
