Overview In this role, you will manage risk and compliance activities across Harvard's research ecosystem. You'll serve as the primary non-financial compliance liaison to a broad portfolio of schools and units, guiding policy interpretation and risk-based decisions. You will lead assessments, track issues, and promote a culture of compliant research and academic practice. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams and committees to support safe, compliant research, with a focus on international collaborations, export controls, and conflicts of interest. This is a chance to influence university-wide risk governance and training initiatives within ORAC and OVPR.

Responsibilities- Act as the primary non-financial research compliance liaison to a large portfolio of academic and research areas
- Provide consultative guidance on research and academic compliance across campus
- Guide decision-making on international collaborations and visits based on risk profiles
- Represent ORAC on university-wide committees, task forces, and working groups
- Provide consultation to faculty on risk areas affecting Harvard activities outside the university
- Create risk profiles and perform background research to assess threats to security and reputation
- Develop and manage workflows for export controls, international collaborations, and conflicts of interest
- Review contracts with industry partners for compliance-related clauses
- Conduct export control and deemed export reviews for education and research activities
- Review planned international collaborations in grant applications for risk of foreign influence and compliance
- Develop Technology Control Plans and fCOI management plans
- Conduct audits and investigations related to noncompliance and prepare mitigation plans
- Create operational compliance expectations and refer to campus resources for research security
- Create and deliver educational programs on non-financial compliance
- Develop content and guidance for research compliance across functional areas
- Perform other duties as required
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree with 7+ years in research and/or academic compliance or research administration
- Advanced degree and relevant research experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of conflicts of interest/commitment, export controls, international activities, and operations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently, manage projects from inception to completion, and prioritize under competing demands
- Experience in assessing operations to enhance policies and regulatory compliance
- Strong understanding of laws and regulations in research and academic compliance
- Proven ability to communicate complex issues clearly to diverse stakeholders
