Overview As a Sr Air Quality Engineer in AMER, you lead air permitting and compliance for AWS data centers, collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate air quality considerations into planning, design, and operations. You manage permit applications, modeling, and regulatory interactions to ensure regulatory compliance while enabling AWS growth. You will influence energy and emissions decisions for new and existing facilities and advocate for sustainable air quality practices. This role combines technical leadership with stakeholder engagement to advance AWS's environmental program and global footprint.

Responsibilities- Lead air permit applications for new construction, modifications, amendments, and renewals in AMER.
- Oversee contracts with environmental consultants and testing firms for permit readiness and modeling.
- Manage regulatory agency interactions for permit evaluations, processing, and new technologies.
- Prioritize and coordinate multiple technically complex assignments concurrently.
- Represent AWS to government entities and internal stakeholders on air quality matters.
- Review permitting needs for power generation technologies (prime and backup) for data centers.
- Identify permitting implications of onsite and offsite power generation and utilities.
- Assess climate/energy regulation impacts on traditional and clean energy deployments.
- Collaborate with energy, design engineering, public policy, capacity delivery, real estate, due diligence, and legal teams on large-scale projects.
- Apply knowledge of natural gas and hydrogen energy generation to permitting strategies.
- Demonstrate experience with Title V, NSR, and PSD permitting (US) and data center permitting.
Key requirements- 5+ years of program or technical project management experience
- BA/BS in chemistry, chemical or environmental engineering, atmospheric science or related field
- 5+ years of experience with air quality regulatory assessments and air emissions evaluations
- 5+ years of experience with air permitting at local, state, and federal levels (Title V, NSR, PSD)
- 5+ years of experience with engine regulations including 40 CFR 63 Subpart ZZZZ and 40 CFR 60 Subpart IIII
- 5+ years of experience with data center permitting and compliance
