Overview In this role you will lead first-line operational excellence across Liberty Mutual Investments' investment-operations platform. You will own the health of daily operations, assessing risk and testing control effectiveness to close gaps. Working across treasury, derivatives, loans, alternatives, and shared services, you'll translate data into governance-ready insights and drive durable process improvements. This is a high-impact, individual-contributor role with potential to grow into people management as the function scales. You'll partner with Transformation and Product teams to turn findings into durable fixes that protect value and resilience.
Responsibilities- Design and run a first-line risk and control self-assessment across seven operating teams
- Maintain a living map of operational risks, controls, and residual risk
- Test controls for effectiveness and drive remediation to closure
- Own operational KPI framework and health reporting for governance
- Partner with Transformation to translate gaps into prioritized backlogs
- Coordinate with Product Owners to reflect operations needs in backlogs
- Identify and advance automation and AI opportunities to improve processes
- Coordinate with second-line Risk and Internal Audit to avoid duplication and ensure scope alignment
- Assess external service providers from a risk-and-control perspective
- Communicate changes and priorities to senior stakeholders across teams
Key requirements- 10+ years of experience in investment operations, financial operations, or operational risk and controls
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, accounting, or related field; advanced degree a plus
- Strong understanding of investment operations lifecycle across loans, derivatives, alternatives, cash/treasury
- Experience defining and operating metrics and KPIs and reporting to governance forums
- Familiarity with loan administration and accounting systems and ABOR/IBOR environments
- Proven ability to influence peer teams without direct authority in a matrixed organization
- Experience in risk assessment, control design, and remediation
