Staff Distribution Engineer (Denver)

Job description

Overview

In this role you will lead distribution design for 2.4kV-34.5kV projects, guiding design and construction from concept through delivery. You'll develop voltage packages, cost estimates, and BOMs while applying utility standards and conducting field inspections. You'll communicate project status to clients and stakeholders, supporting vegetation management, ROW, and outage planning. This role combines technical design with cross functional collaboration to deliver reliable, compliant distribution solutions at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Develop distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects
  • Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other deliverables
  • Perform distribution calculations (cable pulling, voltage drop, pole loading)
  • Apply NESC standards and utility specifications
  • Research and compile project data for managers
  • Conduct field inspections of overhead and underground facilities
  • Prepare communications on vegetation management, third-party attachments, ROW, and outage planning
  • Create client presentations, reports, and visualizations to show results and status
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and standards
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related ABET-accredited program with 3 years of relevant experience (consulting preferred)
  • Or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology with FE exam completed and 3 years of relevant experience (consulting preferred)
  • Or Master's degree in Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience (consulting preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of electrical distribution power flow
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in distribution design software and GIS
  • Knowledge of easements, right-of-way, and permitting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Analytical problem-solving and attention to detail
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred
