Staff Mechanical Engineer (Chicago)

Overview

In this role you will design HVAC and plumbing systems for labs, R&D facilities, central plants, and federal/airport projects within our Aviation & Federal team. You collaborate in a multidisciplinary group to deliver code-compliant designs, lead design development, and support construction administration. You'll influence project outcomes from concept through construction, driving efficient, compliant, and world-class mechanical solutions. Responsibilities
  • Prepare design drawings and specifications with the team to meet deadlines
  • Conduct HVAC and plumbing design tasks including load calculations, energy modeling, equipment selection, and routing
  • Perform hydraulic modeling and existing condition assessments; ensure code compliance
  • Participate in construction administration (submittals, RFI responses, meetings)
  • Coordinate with electrical, structural, civil, architectural disciplines; mentor junior staff
  • Develop design criteria, calculations, construction details, quantities, and cost estimates
  • Support QA/QC processes for project deliverables and submittals
  • Assist with client presentations and field surveys of existing conditions
Key requirements
  • ABET-accredited program and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience (Bachelor's)
  • Or Master's in Mechanical Engineering with 2 years of experience (consulting preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and design standards (ASHRAE 62.1 & 90.1)
  • Proficient in CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit) and BIM; experience with 3D rendering and HVAC analysis programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; analytical problem-solving
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license highly preferred
