Overview In this in-house role within Crum & Forster's Accident & Health Legal team, you will counsel on high-volume contract development, negotiation, and regulatory compliance. You'll lead complex claims and litigation support, advise business units, and drive process improvements with a focus on ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ACA, and NSA. The role blends strategic business partnership with legal risk management, across domestic and international partnerships. You will mentor staff and promote AI-enabled contract review practices to enhance efficiency.

Responsibilities- Manage drafting, review, and negotiation of programs, administrative, reinsurance, supplier, and NDA agreements ensuring compliance with standards and regulations
- Drive contract negotiation process and coordinate senior review as needed
- Monitor contract portfolio metrics and suggest improvements to contract management systems and AI tools
- Champion adoption of AI in contract review; train and mentor team
- Contribute to template development for clause requirements and regulatory standards
- Support Claims and Cost Containment teams with audits, responses, and coordination with claims personnel
- Lead complex claims litigation planning, settlements, and coordination with outside counsel
- Provide strategic legal counsel to internal business units balancing objectives with regulatory compliance
- Lead special projects such as process improvements and policy development
- Oversee legal interns and staff, manage workload, and deliver training materials
- Represent the company in industry associations related to Accident & Health insurance
Key requirements- J.D. degree and State Bar admission, with NJ in-house counsel license eligibility within one year
- 8+ years legal experience, including 3+ years in Accident & Health insurance products and claims management
- Experience with insurance regulatory matters preferred
- Strong PC skills: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills for complex commercial and reinsurance agreements
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with high-quality output
- Strong oral communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences
- Proven experience supervising and mentoring staff and interns
- Experience with ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ACA, NSA, and welfare plans and health insurance law
- Ability to counsel on group benefit and third-party self-funded plan administration
