Associate or Senior Associate, Fixed Assets / Cost Segregation Engineer (AMCS)

Overview

In this role, you support cost segregation and fixed asset analyses for construction, real estate, and renewable initiatives to determine asset classification and tax treatment. You'll work with clients and internal teams, perform field and document reviews, and prepare engineering-based reports and depreciation analyses. As a Senior Associate, you'll lead parts of engagements and mentor junior staff. The role sits within the Accounting Methods and Credit Services practice at KPMG, offering exposure to automation and data-driven workflow improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Support cost segregation and fixed asset analyses for construction projects, real estate acquisitions, and renewables initiatives
  • Analyze construction data, GL detail, drawings, and capitalization support to classify assets
  • Conduct site visits and fieldwork to validate cost assumptions
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to gather documentation
  • Prepare depreciation analyses, reconciliations, and client deliverables; participate in fixed asset outsourcing engagements
  • Identify opportunities related to sales tax exemptions and contribute to process improvements and automation
  • Uphold integrity and professionalism in the work environment
  • For Senior Associate: lead discrete portions of engagements and oversee analyses and deliverables, including reviewing junior staff work
Key requirements
  • Minimum one year of relevant experience in engineering, corporation, or public accounting; cost segregation or fixed asset consulting background preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field
  • Understanding of construction processes and building systems; ability to translate project costs into asset classifications
  • Basic knowledge of federal income tax depreciation or interest in developing this skillset
  • Experience reviewing technical drawings or large project cost data
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with structured data; aptitude with data wrangling or automation tools and BI or scripting languages
