Overview

As an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of automation solutions for water, wastewater, recycled water, and industrial facilities. You will collaborate with multi-discipline teams to deliver high-quality control systems and project deliverables. This role focuses on planning, design, and delivery, with a strong emphasis on engineering standards and client satisfaction. You will mentor junior engineers and help shape best practices while supporting construction, startup, and commissioning activities. Responsibilities
  • Plan, design, and deliver automation and control system solutions for municipal and industrial clients
  • Lead instrumentation and control system design for water, wastewater, recycled water, and industrial projects
  • Develop control strategies, instrumentation layouts, network architectures, and SCADA designs
  • Prepare and review P&IDs, instrumentation specifications, I/O lists, and system architecture diagrams
  • Collaborate with electrical, process, mechanical, and civil engineers to deliver integrated solutions
  • Support planning studies, condition assessments, and analyses related to automation and controls
  • Develop project cost estimates and assist with scope development
  • Coordinate with clients, system integrators, contractors, vendors, and internal teams throughout delivery
  • Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting
  • Perform QA/QC reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices
  • Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the team
Key requirements
  • 5-8 years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, preferably in water/wastewater or industrial infrastructure
  • Experience designing instrumentation and control systems for pumps, treatment facilities, or similar projects
  • Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, control strategies, and instrumentation systems
  • Experience developing and reviewing P&IDs and control system documentation
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, or related engineering field
  • Professional Engineering license strongly preferred; ability to obtain licensure within six months considered
