Overview In this role you perform high-complexity microbiology work across bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology and parasitology to deliver accurate results. You will manage daily lab operations, help develop procedures, and train staff, while upholding CAP and regulatory standards. You will troubleshoot issues, drive quality control, and support both shift coverage and department needs. Responsibilities- Perform high-complexity microbiology procedures across bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology and parasitology
- Assume daily department operations and cover supervisor responsibilities in their absence
- Develop and update procedures; participate in new technique evaluation
- Conduct quality control, proficiency testing, and instrument maintenance
- Troubleshoot test systems, investigate abnormal results, and implement corrective actions
- Train and orient staff; support in-service programs and education
- Manage specimen processing, ordering, and reporting workflows
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and CAP regulations
Key requirements- MT (ASCP) certification
- California CLIA license (Clinical Laboratory Scientist)
- Three to five years' clinical lab experience; two years in specified microbiology areas
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to work in a union environment
- Knowledge of LIS/computer systems for ordering, reporting, and downtime procedures
