Senior Tax Manager - Construction

Overview

In this role you will lead key client relationships within Wipfli's Construction Practice, delivering strategic tax and business advisory services. You will manage complex engagements for contractors and developers, guiding multi-state compliance and entity structuring. You will identify tax-saving opportunities and monitor industry trends to support growth. You will mentor teammates and collaborate across service lines to drive client value and practice expansion.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to construction clients, providing strategic tax planning and business advisory services
  • Lead complex tax engagements for contractors, developers, and related entities, including multi-state compliance, long-term contract accounting, and entity structuring
  • Proactively identify tax-saving opportunities and advise on emerging tax legislation and industry trends
  • Manage and expand key client relationships to ensure exceptional service and long-term partnerships
  • Drive business development by identifying growth opportunities and supporting proposals and networking
  • Collaborate across service lines to deliver integrated solutions addressing clients' business and tax needs
  • Oversee engagement quality, risk, profitability, and timely delivery
  • Mentor and develop managers, seniors, and staff to foster a high-performing, collaborative team
  • Contribute to practice growth initiatives and talent development within the Construction Practice
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA required)
  • CPA required
  • 10+ years of public accounting tax experience with construction industry focus
  • Strong technical expertise in construction accounting, pass-through taxation, long-term contract accounting, and multi-state taxation
  • Proven ability to manage complex client relationships and act as a strategic advisor to business owners and executives
  • Demonstrated success in talent development, team leadership, and driving client and practice growth
