Overview In this senior HR role, you partner with leadership to shape HR and Faculty Affairs processes for faculty, academic staff, and visiting scholars. You will guide organizational development, recruitment, appointments, and performance development, ensuring policy alignment and compliance. Working within the Dean's Office, you influence strategy, lead change initiatives, and support senior leaders with confidential, high-stakes decisions. The position offers a chance to impact Stanford's sustainability mission by enabling strong people processes and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities- Advise leaders on HR/FA matters, including organizational development, change management, employee relations, and staff development.
- Oversee faculty search, appointment, and promotion processes; manage appointments for visiting/adjunct faculty and teaching staff with policy alignment.
- Lead HR/FA process implementation and provide guidance to managers, faculty, and senior leaders.
- Review and approve employment transactions and academic appointments in line with university policies.
- Serve as primary reviewer for materials related to faculty, academic staff, visiting scholars, and teaching titles.
- Provide administrative support for faculty employment activities: searches, appointments, reappointments, promotions, sabbaticals, leaves, retirements, recalls.
- Support senior leadership in local and university-wide initiatives, including communication strategies.
Key requirements- 10+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in higher education or large organizations
- Experience or strong willingness to learn faculty affairs processes; ability to transfer HR skills to FA work
- Excellent judgment, discretion, diplomacy with sensitive and confidential matters
- Strong problem-solving, organization, prioritization, and follow-through amid competing priorities
- Proven ability to coach, train, and influence managers and senior leadership
- Experience in academic environments and/or with faculty appointment and promotion processes
- Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination)
