Overview In this role you provide sophisticated legal and non-legal research support to firm lawyers and staff, leveraging diverse sources and tools. You distill complex findings into clear reports and guidance, partnering with Knowledge Services to anticipate client needs and improve research workflows. You work across practice areas, staying current on resources and emerging technologies to enhance decision-making. Your contribution helps sustain high-quality, cost-conscious research that supports the firm's service standards and client outcomes.
Responsibilities- Conduct complex legal, statutory, and regulatory research across practice areas and jurisdictions
- Perform legislative and biographical research and locate court filings, articles, and government reports
- Create, monitor, and maintain alerts for legal, business, and regulatory developments
- Deliver concise, customized research reports and summaries for clients and internal stakeholders
- Interviews with clients to clarify scope, constraints, and deliverables
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of resources and search strategies; recommend resources and tools
- Enter requests into workflow tracking system and track billable time for services
- Educate clients on resources and research techniques; support collection development strategy
- Assist with knowledge management projects, guides, intranet upkeep, and cross-service team support
- Ensure confidentiality and comply with firm policies; adapt to remote work and virtual collaboration
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies including AI-assisted research tools and their appropriate use
Key requirements- M.L.S., M.L.I.S., or J.D. from an accredited school; 5+ years of relevant law firm research experience
- Strong legal research skills across complex matters and multiple sources
- Proficiency with a wide range of legal electronic and print resources
- Knowledge of federal, legislative, and regulatory research; familiarity with practice areas (L&E, ERISA, Sports, Securities, Health Care, Tax, etc.) a plus
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and Adobe Acrobat; ability to learn new technologies
- Comfort with remote work and virtual collaboration; interest in AI-assisted research tools
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to present findings clearly
- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization abilities in a fast-paced environment
