Overview In this Senior Avionics Engineer role, you will help design and certify avionics for ISR/SOF platforms like the CV-22 Osprey, supporting the WIB division at Patuxent River. You will translate requirements into system specifications, perform analyses and simulations, and ensure airworthiness across DoD programs. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to mitigate risks and guide system integration, using MIL standards and DoD acquisition processes. Responsibilities- Translate and validate weapon system and subsystem requirements into system specifications and airworthiness criteria
- Develop system performance objectives, integration requirements, and resource estimates for design and sustainment
- Conduct analyses of designs and changes to ensure performance, cost-efficiency, and feasibility
- Perform modeling, simulation, and survivability analyses to identify risks and integration challenges
- Provide avionics support for embedded software, diagnostics, and mission-critical software releases
- Review architectures, ICDs, drawings, and specs for interoperability and MIL standards compliance
- Provide guidance for propulsion system development, integration, and sustainment
- Support engineering reviews, design boards, and acquisition documentation
- Maintain requirements management using DOORS and RSA for traceability and decision support
- Participate in studies of emerging technologies and modernization initiatives for SOF weapon systems
- Support lifecycle engineering across R&D, production, sustainment, deployment, and divestiture
- Prepare technical reports, risk analyses, and airworthiness documentation
- Apply DoDD 5000-series policies and AFLCMC processes across SOF tasks
Key requirements- Master's or Doctorate in a related field with 10 years of relevant experience or Bachelor's in Engineering (ABET) with 12 years, 5 of which in DoD
- Expertise in defining and translating system requirements and architectures using DOORS and RSA
- Knowledge of integrated avionics, embedded systems, and mission-critical software
- Ability to perform airworthiness determinations and apply MIL standards (MIL-HDBK-516, MIL-STD-882)
- Hands-on experience with MIL-STD-1553, RS-232, ARINC 610, and interface control documentation
- Strong ability to conduct technical analyses, trade studies, survivability assessments, and system modeling/simulation
