Overview

As Engineering Lead, you will help design utility-scale solar and battery storage projects, partnering with the Engineering Manager and cross-functional teams. You co-manage Project Engineers through the design process and coordinate with operations and external engineers. You apply deep solar design knowledge to shape electrical, civil, and SCADA aspects while ensuring safe, compliant execution. This role offers hands-on impact in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial firm dedicated to safety, quality, and client engagement. You will play a key part in delivering award-winning renewable energy solutions that power Moss's project portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Design and review utility-scale solar layouts (one-line drawings, civil/structural/electrical site plans, wiring diagrams, equipment layouts)
  • Apply construction knowledge to PV string sizing, DC/AC conductor sizing, and racking/tracker design
  • Understand electrical and system studies for plant design
  • Possess civil design awareness (road, grading, drainage, permitting coordination)
  • Travel for site visits and provide technical support to construction teams
  • Participate in substation design review/coordination at 34.5 kV to interconnect
  • Draft and organize engineering RFIs; solve problems with pre-construction and operations teams
  • Work with latest solar and battery storage equipment (panels, inverters/transformers, racking, battery systems)
  • Know solar plant SCADA requirements and design
  • Develop, review, and approve scope of work for external engineering partners
  • Other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 3+ years in renewable energy/solar construction or solar engineering management
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and training engineers
  • Knowledge of electrical design, materials, and methods for power systems
  • Solar electrical systems background
  • Familiarity with NEC and NESC; NEC/NESC knowledge a plus
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Highly organized and able to multitask multiple projects
