Overview

In this role, you drive analytical method development for gene therapy programs, focusing on AAV analytics and platform development. You will collaborate across teams to shape data-driven strategies and support impurity characterization and potency assessment. Your work enables robust bioprocess analytics and platform evolution, contributing to patient-focused gene therapy initiatives. The position offers hands-on scientific impact in a collaborative, cross-functional setting with a strong emphasis on documentation and prioritization.

Responsibilities
  • Lead development and execution of custom molecular assays (ddPCR and qPCR) to support gene therapy analytics
  • Advance NGS-based characterization of impurities and heterogeneity in AAV drug products
  • Guide or run cell-based potency assays to evaluate biological function and activity
  • Support gene therapy platform development via evolving analytical methodologies and cross-team collaboration, including capsid engineering
  • Work independently and across multiple UCB teams (data scientists, cell biologists, disease area experts, CMC)
  • Manage priorities, communicate across disciplines, and document experimental work thoroughly
Key requirements
  • MS in Molecular Biology or related field with 10+ years of experience, or PhD/Postdoc with 2+ years
  • 4+ years PCR-based assay development and molecular characterization of AAVs or biomolecular characterization for gene therapies
  • 4+ years NGS (long and/or short read) development experience for genomic and transcriptomic analyses
  • 4+ years experience as a functional representative in multi-disciplinary drug discovery project teams
