Project Engineer - Gas Appliances

Overview

In this role you own end-to-end development of core gas-fired heating products, from concept through compliance testing to manufacturing support. You will lead new designs, address obsolescence and market feedback, and drive CSA/BSI certifications for NA and EU markets. You partner with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet safety and performance standards while controlling costs. This is a hands-on position with a clear impact on product quality, certification readiness, and manufacturing readiness.

Responsibilities
  • Design new gas-fired heating products aligned with product planning proposals
  • Redesign and modify existing products to address obsolescence, cost pressures, regulatory updates, and customer feedback
  • Own CSA and BSI certification submission packages and manage test schedules
  • Create and edit detailed CAD drawings using SolidWorks
  • Prototype and conduct lab testing in the certified lab, documenting tests per lab manuals
  • Ensure designs comply with CSA/ANSI Z83, BS EN 416-1/416-2, and applicable NFPA codes
  • Provide BOMs, part numbers, and supplier input to the Engineering Services Coordinator
  • Develop installation manuals, product labels, and service documentation
  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities via value engineering and collaborate with supply chain
  • Support manufacturing during first-run assembly and provide ongoing engineering support
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years of product engineering experience in gas-fired appliances, commercial heating, or HVAC equipment
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D modeling software)
  • Total work experience exceeds 4 years
  • SolidWorks
  • CSA/BSI certification processes (and European market certifications such as BS EN standards, UKCA, CE)
  • Lab testing and combustion knowledge (burners, gas valves, flame management, ignition systems)
  • Low-voltage controls integration (up to 600V)
