Overview

In this open-rank role, you will advance genome engineering efforts within Mayo Clinic Florida's expanding cell therapy program. You will collaborate with CAR-T and immune cell teams to translate gene-editing strategies into clinically meaningful cell therapies. Your work will span oncology and non-oncology indications, aiming to broaden therapeutic reach and improve persistence, safety, and efficacy. You will lead innovative pipelines from discovery toward early-phase trials, shaping the program's strategic growth and translational impact. Responsibilities
  • Provide scientific leadership in genome engineering across the cell therapy ecosystem
  • Collaborate with CAR-T and translational immunotherapy teams to develop next-generation engineered immune cell platforms
  • Develop and optimize gene editing solutions (efficacy, durability, safety switches, multiplex editing, precision targeting)
  • Build scalable, clinically translatable genetic engineering pipelines from discovery to early-phase trials
  • Contribute to strategic growth and national visibility of Mayo Clinic Florida's Cell Therapy Program
  • Mentor trainees, junior faculty, and research staff within a collaborative environment
  • Engage in institutional initiatives aligned with Cure, Connect, and Transform healthcare through transformative science
  • Integrate advanced genome engineering technologies with existing and emerging cell therapy platforms, including in vivo editing and stem cell modification
Key requirements
  • Doctoral degree in genetics, molecular biology, immunology, biomedical engineering, or related discipline
  • Strong record of high-impact peer-reviewed publications in genome editing or immune engineering
  • Sustained extramural funding appropriate to academic rank (e.g., NIH K award or equivalent for Assistant Professor; R01-level for higher ranks)
  • Experience cross-disciplinary collaboration, particularly with immunotherapy or CAR-T research
  • Evidence of scientific leadership and ability to build multidisciplinary programs
