Data Center Lab Designer / Architect

Overview

In this role, you lead the design and evaluation of high-density data center environments, aligning lab strategy with AMD's performance and product roadmap. You drive global lab standards across business units, ensuring scalable, energy-efficient deployments. You collaborate with IT, Facilities, Real Estate, and Product SMEs to mitigate risks and oversee governance from concept to deployment. This opportunity combines design leadership with hands-on execution in a fast-evolving tech ecosystem.

Responsibilities
  • Data Center due diligence & strategic assessment (power, cooling, connectivity, risks)
  • Review infrastructure drawings and single-line diagrams; assess design maturity and contractor capability
  • Identify technical, schedule, and scalability risks with structured reporting
  • Develop scalable, modular lab designs optimized for density, airflow, accessibility, and efficiency
  • Define global lab design standards across AMD business units
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and sustainable design principles
  • Utilize modeling tools for airflow and thermal validation when needed
  • Define standards for power distribution, cooling, IT networking space, and rack density
  • Lead construction monitoring, schedule and budget tracking, and commissioning
  • Oversee governance and risk reporting to executives
  • Cross-functional stakeholder management across IT, Facilities, Real Estate, Procurement, and Product SMEs
  • Liaise with vendors/contractors to ensure timelines and standards adherence
  • Provide executive-level reporting on risk, budget, and schedule health
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of specifications and progress
Key requirements
  • semiconductor or high-density data center design, construction, or operations experience
  • large-scale lab or data center architecture experience
  • infrastructure assessment and technical due diligence background
  • experience reviewing construction drawings and overseeing commissioning
  • familiarity with high-density computing, cloud-scale environments, and high-performance networks
  • airflow modeling or thermal simulation tools knowledge
  • DCIM and infrastructure monitoring systems knowledge
  • data center certifications (preferred: DCCA, CDCDP)
