Overview

In this role, you help translate peptide upstream manufacturing processes from development labs to pilot plant operations, enabling early-phase cGMP production. You will work within the Lilly Medicine Foundry, collaborating across teams to ensure readiness and successful tech transfers. Your work supports scalable peptide manufacturing and continuous improvement in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. This position offers a chance to influence process design, adopt new technologies, and contribute to patient-focused medicines.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and transfer peptide upstream processes from development labs to pilot plant operations
  • Perform synthetic peptide chemistry and assess routes from early-phase R&D
  • Conduct SPPS and Cleavage & Precipitation upstream procedures
  • Collaborate with safety and process engineering to evaluate procedure safety
  • Order and stage chemicals, obtain reference materials, set up analytical methods
  • Analyze analytical data to support data-driven decisions
  • Ensure plant readiness through familiarization executions for SPPS and Cleavage & Precipitation
  • Execute and document batch records, tech transfer plans, SOPs and deviation reports
  • Contribute to process optimization and troubleshooting with CAPAs and RCA
  • Maintain meticulous lab notebooks and prepare technical packages for transfers
  • Support cross-functional teams across engineers, chemists, safety, and QA
  • Reproduce conditions for safe handling of solids/dry end processing
  • Lead or participate in definitive lab trials to confirm plant readiness
  • Document and communicate technical findings effectively
Key requirements
  • B.S. or M.S. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years in peptide chemistry or manufacturing with peptide API or drug substance
  • Solid phase peptide synthesis experience preferred
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Experience with HPLC/UPLC, LC-MS, GC, NMR
  • Knowledge of peptide downstream purification, TFF, lyophilization
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and handle ambiguity
  • Familiarity with batch records and scale-up experiments
