Overview

Join Ford's Electrified Systems Engineering team to advance battery modeling for electrified vehicles. You will develop and deploy advanced battery cell, pack, and system models to support simulations, design decisions, and program milestones. Collaborate across battery, controls, and vehicle teams to improve model quality and impact. This role offers front-row involvement in electrification efforts that shape Ford's sustainable mobility strategy. You will work with cross-functional partners to turn data and physics-based insights into real-world vehicle performance.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, deploy, and maintain advanced battery models (semi-physical, single-particle, electrochemical) for battery, system, and vehicle simulations.
  • Integrate electrical, thermal, and control models into simulation environments to support energy analysis, controls development, and program milestones.
  • Calibrate and validate models using lab, supplier, vehicle, and field data to ensure accuracy and robustness.
  • Apply models to address internal inquiries and support engineering decision-making.
  • Support specification development via model-based analysis of usage, performance, and life requirements.
  • Improve battery-modeling tools, methodologies, and automation for quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain calibration updates and documentation within various simulation environments aligned with program cadence.
  • Collaborate with battery cell engineering, systems, thermal, controls, test, software, vehicle attribute, and supplier teams to resolve issues.
  • Work with BMS and controls teams on model-based controls development and evaluation.
Key requirements
  • Master's degree in engineering, applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries, or battery modeling (development, implementation, calibration, validation)
  • Deep understanding of Li-ion battery principles (electrochemical, electrical, thermal, degradation)
  • Strong background in mathematical modeling, data analysis, statistics, and experimental data interpretation
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or C++
  • Experience applying battery models to support engineering decisions
