Overview

As a Real Estate Associate, you will lead and support sophisticated commercial real estate and related transactional matters. You will work with lenders, borrowers, and public authorities to move closings from inception to funding, shaping loan documents, due diligence, and regulatory compliance. You join a collaborative Mid-Atlantic firm that values practical judgment and client service while offering growth opportunities. This role offers meaningful impact in CRE, lending, and public finance across acquisitions, dispositions, and financing transactions.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial real estate documents (purchase/sale agreements, leases, easements)
  • Prepare and negotiate loan documents and security instruments for commercial lending
  • Draft and review public finance documents (trust indentures, bond purchase agreements, disclosures)
  • Conduct due diligence on title, survey, environmental, and zoning issues for acquisitions and financing
  • Coordinate closings and funding with title companies, trustees, lenders, borrowers, and officials
  • Advise on regulatory, permitting, and compliance matters related to CRE and municipal finance
  • Manage external vendors and supervise junior team members on transaction tasks
  • Provide clear client communications with status updates and risk assessments
  • Stay updated on market developments and integrate updates into client advice
Key requirements
  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Active bar admission in DC, Virginia, or Maryland
  • 3+ years of transactional experience with CRE and commercial lending
  • Experience with commercial loans, secured financing, and lender-side representation
  • Familiarity with municipal bonds and public finance documents; municipal bond work desirable
  • Strong due diligence skills (title, survey, environmental, zoning)
  • Excellent drafting and negotiating abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and lead closing processes
  • Strong interpersonal and client service skills
  • Experience supervising juniors and collaborating across departments
  • Proficiency with document management systems, MS Office, and willingness to learn e-closing platforms
