Overview

In this Lab Supervisor role, you will oversee the microbiology section to maximize staff, equipment, and material use within budget and quality standards. You will work closely with management to drive efficient, compliant lab operations and mentor a technical team. You'll tackle complex testing, method evaluation, and QA activities that impact patient results. This position offers leadership responsibility, a focus on process improvements, and a pathway to advance within a mission-driven lab services organization.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, schedule and direct section work to maximize efficiency within budget and standards
  • Oversee department activities, assign priorities, and schedule non-routine procedures
  • Supervise staff: interview, hire, train, and develop through performance evaluations
  • Perform advanced/specialized tests and confirm results when needed
  • Re-evaluate methodologies, propose changes, and assist in test interpretation
  • Check/approve specialized/problem reports for accuracy
  • Initiate quality-control measures and monitor adherence to lab standards
  • Perform technologist duties as needed during absences or peak workload
  • Complete special projects: surveys, statistical reports, studies, research
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional condition
  • Complete training and competency checklists; adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety requirements
  • Answer client or lab personnel questions; participate in regulatory inspections
  • Other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Four to six years of full-time experience as a medical technologist or equivalent in a clinical laboratory
  • Preferred supervisory experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology (Required)
  • ASCP Certification (Preferred)
  • Proficiency with common lab instruments and manual/automated pipetting
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with client information
