Overview

As a Mechanical Designer in Nuro's Autonomous Vehicle Hardware group, you will design and deliver autonomous hardware that enables the Nuro Driver system across platforms. You will collaborate with vehicle partners to ensure seamless platform integrations and meet performance requirements. Your work spans sensing, electronics architecture, and mass-deployable hardware for L4 autonomy, balancing cost, reliability, and manufacturability. This role offers the chance to shape hardware for real-world autonomous mobility at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Own the design, development, and release of autonomous hardware enabling the Nuro Driver across customer platforms
  • Lead specification and integration with vehicle partners to meet performance and product requirements
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop sensing and electronics architecture for mass-deployed self-driving robots
  • Benchmark electronics technologies for make vs. buy decisions to optimize cost and capability
  • Identify and engage key suppliers to move concepts to production readiness
  • Manage parts and assemblies from concept through validation to production
  • Drive part quality improvements, cost reductions, and efficiency gains
  • Communicate technical decisions and plans to management
Key requirements
  • 2+ years in mechanical design with electro-mechanical hardware design, build, and test
  • Experience from prototyping to mass production environments
  • Experience with manufacturing processes (rapid prototyping, sheet metal, injection molding, machining, casting)
  • Design for multiple materials with geometry optimization considering cost, weight, strength, and thermal analysis using FEA and hand calculations
  • Experience with reliability test planning and validation
  • Experience working with fabrication and module vendors, DFМ feedback, production validation
  • Strong self-starting, communication, and organizational skills; resourceful with bias to action
  • CAD proficiency; familiarity with UG NX is a plus
