Overview As Product Counsel at Bentley Systems, you will help product and technology teams navigate the legal and regulatory landscape as AI-enabled infrastructure software evolves. You will act as a trusted advisor across the product lifecycle, translating complex requirements into practical guidance to accelerate roadmaps. You'll collaborate with LCA and IBP teams to protect the company's integrity while enabling responsible innovation. Responsibilities- Embed as a proactive advisor through the product lifecycle, contributing early in strategy and launch decisions.
- Develop strong relationships with Product and Technology leadership and understand roadmap priorities.
- Amplify LCA expertise within Product and Technology and ensure effective collaboration.
- Translate product strategy into clear updates for LCA teams to anticipate upcoming developments.
- Monitor regulations and tech trends to identify roadmap implications and inform build decisions.
- Provide solutions-oriented guidance balancing legal risk with business objectives.
- Translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical, scalable guidance for product teams.
- Align product positioning, marketing claims, and contractual obligations with legal considerations.
- Improve LCA operating cadence and collaboration by sharing insights from product relationships.
- Establish clear roles, handoffs, and decision rights between LCA specialists and Product/Technology.
- Leverage technology, automation, and AI tools to expand impact of legal guidance.
Key requirements- J.D. and active bar membership in good standing.
- 8-12 years of relevant legal experience, with significant in-house experience at a technology, SaaS, or engineering/infrastructure software company.
- Experience supporting global software products in areas like privacy, data governance, IP, AI governance, cybersecurity, product compliance, cloud services, SaaS, APIs, or software licensing.
- Strong understanding of modern software development lifecycles.
- Proven ability to build trust and influence with senior executives in a global organization, particularly with Product/Technology teams.
- Experience operating in matrixed organizations and influencing outcomes without direct authority.
- Strong systems thinking and ability to connect roadmap decisions with market/regulatory dynamics and strategy.
