Overview

In this field-based role, you own the commissioning of new mechanical systems from pre-startup readiness through first fire and verified operation. You will work hands-on in the mechanical room as part of a growing team that self-performs installations, delivering fully documented retrofits. This position offers a step-up opportunity to influence site startup quality and performance across NYC and Westchester. You'll tackle critical startup decisions and system optimization, making an impact on project outcomes and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Create commissioning plans for installed systems with functional tests, KPIs, and data requirements
  • Review schematics and Sequence of Operations for HVAC, steam, hydronic, and domestic hot water; raise RFIs as needed
  • Inspect near-complete installations to ensure hardware, sensors, and wiring are ready for startup
  • Own go/no-go decision on startup readiness and manage punch list until site readiness
  • Energize and start boilers, pumps, and controls; verify inputs/outputs operate correctly
  • Conduct combustion analysis with calibrated analyzer, recording O2, CO, stack temp, and efficiency across firing range
  • Verify safeties and interlocks (LWCO, high-limit, gas pressure switches, flame safeguard, proof-of-closure)
  • Troubleshoot line- and low-voltage control circuits; set up long-term test instrumentation for commissioning
  • Validate system sequencing and BAS functionality (lead/lag, modulation, setback/changeover) per design
  • Produce Commissioning Reports and Boiler Room Settings documentation for owner and service team
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent hands-on heating experience
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with commercial boilers, burners, pumps, and controls
  • Working knowledge of NYC steam and hydronic heating systems
  • Ability to read mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, and Sequence of Operations
  • Strong written communication skills for owner- and service-facing reports
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to NYC/Westchester sites
  • OSHA SST certification
