Overview

In this role you will design and oversee overhead HV transmission lines, applying advanced software and engineering methods. You'll work within the Transmission & Distribution practice to deliver technically sound designs, construction drawings, and cost estimates. You may lead project teams and serve as a primary client interface, driving quality and schedules. Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform overhead HV transmission line design activities
  • Utilize PLS-CADD modeling, line routing, structure analysis and loading trees
  • Develop design criteria, sag-tension calculations, wire blows, swing angle, and damper recommendations
  • Structure spotting, clearance reports, wire selection
  • Prepare construction specifications for HV OH T-Line hardware, structure design, and field installation supervision
  • Create construction drawings and cost estimates for HV transmission lines
  • Contribute to project schedules and budgets, provide guidance to junior staff
  • Possibly lead teams and act as primary client interface; perform quality reviews as a technical lead
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with 3 years of transmission engineering experience (consulting preferred)
  • Or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology from ABET-accredited program, FE exam complete, and 3 years of transmission engineering experience (consulting preferred)
  • Or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with 2 years of transmission engineering experience (consulting preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of standard civil/structural engineering techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work methodically in quantitative problem-solving and strong analytical thinking
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Experience in 69kV to 500kV line design; familiarity with Power Line software (PLS, PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE) preferred
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) certification preferred
