Overview In this Counsel role, you provide strategic legal support to Old National Bancorp and its subsidiary, focusing on labor and employment matters. You will partner with the People Team to address policies, investigations, and compliance, advising business leaders on risk and workforce issues. The position blends policy development, dispute management, and cross-functional collaboration to minimize legal risk. You will operate in a hands-on, in-office setting across multiple Midwest locations, shaping how the bank manages people-related challenges. Responsibilities- Advise People Team on labor and employment topics, including policies, background screening, performance management, leaves, diversity, and terminations
- Monitor labor and employment laws, provide strategic recommendations to adjust practices
- Counsel business leaders on risk management and compliance in employment matters
- Handle employment litigation, investigations, and responses to claims under Title VII, ADEA, ADA, EEOC
- Develop and implement employment policies and separation strategies
- Oversee responses to disputes to minimize risk and litigation costs
- Manage outside counsel on employment litigation
- Coordinate and participate in various legal projects as directed by senior leadership
- Support other areas of the Company as needed
Key requirements- Five+ years of full-time legal experience in a corporate legal department of a financial institution or large law firm
- Bar admission and in good standing in a relevant state (Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota preferred) or eligibility to in-house counsel in that state
- Strong legal analysis and practical business judgment
- Ability to advise management at all levels and communicate clearly
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to deliver timely, high-quality work product and work well in a team
- Willingness to work in-office within the footprint (Chicago, Evansville, Indianapolis, Minneapolis/St. Paul)
