Overview In this role you will lead and deliver accounting and financial reporting engagements for government, higher education, and not-for-profit clients. You'll guide advisory projects from planning through completion, ensuring quality deliverables and strong client experiences while seeking opportunities to expand services. You'll stay current on accounting pronouncements and industry developments, driving transformation and process improvements. This position blends technical GAAP/governmental accounting expertise with leadership and business development in a fast-paced, hybrid environment.

Responsibilities- Plan, manage and perform engagements including ACFR preparation, financial close and reconciliation, implementation of new accounting standards, and government/not-for-profit advisory work
- Assess client accounting challenges and tailor advisory solutions with defined timelines and scope
- Evaluate complex government or not-for-profit GAAP treatments and ensure accuracy against benchmarks
- Review ACFR accuracy against GFOA checklists and identify best practices in financial processes
- Provide status updates and actionable recommendations to client leadership
- Oversee engagement economics and allocate resources to meet project goals
- Supervise and develop team members, including training and performance evaluations
- Develop content (articles, podcasts, webinars) on governmental accounting to build brand in GPS advisory
- Serve as trusted advisor to clients, identifying expansion opportunities and supporting business development
- Build external relationships to foster long-term client growth
Key requirements- CPA and/or CGFM active or in process
- Minimum 7 years in public accounting (external audit or consulting)
- Strong GASB knowledge and governmental accounting experience
- Experience auditing or assisting with governmental financial close
- Experience with internal controls documentation and testing
- Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to explain complex accounting to finance and non-finance audiences
- Creative problem-solving and leadership presence
- Ability to work independently, adapt to hybrid environments, and travel up to 30%
