Overview

As a Project Engineer in electromechanical plant design, you will act as the design authority for HVDC stations (onshore and offshore). You will develop mechanical and electrical plant designs, coordinate with suppliers and cross-functional teams, and support installation and site activities to meet contract, quality, and safety standards. You will work with CAD workflows (3D modeling, 2D drafting) and produce installation and as-built documentation. This role offers hands-on design impact in a high-stakes energy transmission environment and close collaboration with multiple engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Act as design authority for electromechanical plant design of HVDC stations
  • Perform CAD work including 3D modeling and 2D drafting for drawings, layouts, and installation drawings
  • Prepare bill of materials and quantities and estimate engineering hours
  • Support site engineering and supervise installation of mechanical plant design scope
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and mitigate risks
  • Create and manage installation and as-built documentation
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams across civil, electrical, mechanical, and BIM roles
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's or foreign equivalent in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field and 3 years of HVDC power systems experience
  • Experience in manufacturing/production processes and steel structure standardization/modularization
  • Experience engineering low/medium/high voltage substations and using design principles and industry standards
  • Experience with SLDs and electrical standards/regulations (NEC, ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NFPA)
  • Proficiency in 2D drafting and 3D modeling for installation drawings using AutoCAD, NX, or Revit
  • Ability to prepare BOMs, BOQs, engineering hour estimates, and maintenance/safety documentation
  • Experience documenting projects and communicating with customers, suppliers, or contractors
  • Troubleshooting during design and installation phases
  • Ability to work with multiple teams across diverse backgrounds
  • Willingness to telecommute within policy and live within commuting distance to Raleigh, NC
