Lead Manufacturing Engineer (Starlink PCBA)

Overview

In this role you lead the Starlink PCBA manufacturing team, guiding design-for-manufacturing and the transition of hardware from development to high-volume production. You will align manufacturing goals with SpaceX's mission to connect the unconnected by scaling SMT, post-processing, and testing for reliability. You'll collaborate across design and production to optimize layouts, tooling, and automation, delivering quality, delivery, and cost improvements. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of engineers and specialists for Starlink PCBA manufacturing
  • Oversee SMT, post-processing, and testing processes
  • Implement plug-and-play production processes capable of high-volume throughput (>3M/year)
  • Align manufacturing initiatives with overall team goals
  • Drive manufacturing development strategy focusing on quality, delivery, and cost; measure performance
  • Manage technical documentation and mentor engineers and interns
  • Evaluate project scope, labour, and resources; participate in recruiting
  • Own production layout optimizations from material receipt to line processes
  • Manage tooling, inventory, training, and build process according to latest design configuration
  • Influence design for manufacturability; drive design for test (DFT) and DFManufacturing (DFM) with design/test engineers
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities; assess ROI with internal or external resources
  • Support production line with technical issues and drive continuous improvement
  • Provide motivational leadership to positively impact the SpaceX mission
Key requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in aerospace, mechanical, systems, electrical, or manufacturing engineering
  • 3+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience
