Senior Electrical Designer - Substation (Chicago)

Overview

In this role you will lead electrical design across planning, layout, and documentation for diverse projects. You'll drive quality and consistency through QA/QC, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet client needs and project objectives. You will contribute to business development efforts and ensure designs align with budget, schedule, and specifications. This position offers impact through shaping electrical systems and standards within a multi-discipline project environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical project designs: schematics, grid layouts, power and lighting systems, protection and controls, site/facility design
  • Drive design production within scope, budget, and schedule
  • Approve reports, drawings, and tests to ensure deliverables meet requirements
  • Quality review and control of project drawings and revisions
  • Mentor and develop drafting staff; train team on standards
  • Participate in client meetings and project marketing/support
  • Perform computations for conduit, grounding layouts, equipment, and relay schematics
  • Integrate project budgets, schedules, and criteria into design deliverables
  • Ensure compliance with company, client, and project drafting standards
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers in a multi-discipline setting
Key requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in drafting technology or related field or Associate Degree with extensive experience or 15 years of progressive detailing and design experience
  • Expert proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel
  • Strong 2D and 3D design capabilities
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical design, calculations, and systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learn new design software and work with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Travel up to 5%
