Overview In this role, you will lead and execute structural design for HV substations up to 500 kV, shaping reliable power delivery. You'll work with project teams across locations, mentor junior engineers, and help establish best practices. The position blends hands-on design with leadership, quality assurance, and collaboration to deliver world-class substation projects. Responsibilities- Lead and oversee structural engineering tasks for substation members (rolled steel, lattice framing, folded plate shapes)
- Perform foundation design for substation structures (drilled piers, spread footings, driven piles)
- Support substation layout designs and BOMs; prepare/write construction specifications
- Mentor and supervise project engineers, EITs, and CAD designers; assign tasks
- Coordinate quality checks per HDR QMS; review deliverables
- Collaborate with transmission line civil/structural engineers and internal teams to develop standards
- Manage multiple projects concurrently across locations; participate in training and technical development
- Contribute to technical papers/presentations for conferences
- Participate in project reviews; travel as needed
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Min 10 years of structural engineering experience in HV substation projects
- Professional engineering license (PE/P.Eng)
- Experience with design software: STAAD, RISA, MFAD, L-Pile, or equivalents
- Familiarity with AISC-360, ASCE-7, ACI-318; knowledge of NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and in teams
- Architectural/engineering consulting firm experience preferred
- Proficient with AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar tools
- Willingness to travel; strong collaboration across regional teams
