Staff Project Engineer

As a Staff Project Engineer, you manage capital projects from design to execution, ensuring safety, cost efficiency and timely delivery. You'll lead design reviews, budgeting, and AFE/DRB processes while coordinating contract talent and supporting refinery operations. This role blends technical leadership with cross-functional collaboration to drive capital program performance and safe installations. You will engage in outages and off-hours support to meet critical business needs, contributing to Valero's energy future.

• Develop, design and cost estimation; prepare AFE and DRB documents for capital/expense projects
• Understand and implement capital budget, appropriations and project control processes
• Perform final review/approval of designs, budgets, plans, schedules, resources and QA/QC
• Recruit and oversee contract project managers
• Track cost and schedule performance against capital budget
• Manage capital project program spend without compromising schedule
• Prepare specifications and procure materials/equipment for project execution
• Provide technical support to refinery departments for safe, cost-effective installations
• Oversee contract personnel for engineering, design and installation of projects
• Perform cost tracking and status reporting for assigned projects
• Manage multiple projects within budget and execution schedule
• Support refinery outages and critical business needs, including off-hours availability
• Follow safety rules and guidelines at the refinery

• 8 years of experience in engineering and project management
• 3 years exposure in a refinery/petrochemical environment
• Bachelor's or higher level degree in Engineering
• On-site work at Valero Ardmore Refinery
