Overview

As a Studio Design Engineer, you translate design visions into tangible concepts by coordinating engineering and manufacturing inputs for the A-surface and creating viable models. You collaborate with cross-functional teams to reconcile functional requirements with thematic intent, delivering alternatives that advance the concept. You manage data and lead feasibility processes to drive coherent surface development and theme alignment. This role sits at the heart of Ford's future mobility design, offering hands-on impact and opportunities to shape vehicle concepts.

Responsibilities
  • Lead studio property setup, data pedigree, ride height, and overall suitability
  • Oversee studies from FC0 to K6 within the Design Feasibility FC Process and complete development checklists
  • Drive integration of A-surface with thematic, VA, functional, and attribute inputs
  • Guide theme setup and development through functional, supplier, or attribute inputs
  • Develop and maintain Surface Scaffold files for physical and digital modeling
  • Provide concept alternatives to reconcile thematic intent with functions and program assumptions
  • Lead optimization and balancing of studio inputs, including explorations of potential future concepts
  • Manage data flow into and out of the studio
Key requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in complete vehicle layout/package including Body and Trim
  • 1+ years of experience in Catia V5 or 3DX
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Equivalent
  • Understanding of production processes
  • Experience leading and presenting to decision-making forums
  • Familiarity with feasibility tools and design studio feasibility progression
  • Knowledge of design feasibility processes and regulatory/legislative considerations (desired)
  • Leading and presenting to decision-making forums
  • Catia V5 or 3DX
  • A-surface integration
  • Design Feasibility FC Process (FC0 to K6)
  • Surface development and theme overlay
  • Understanding of production processes
