Overview

You will lead scientific work on primary packaging for injectable products, shaping packaging solutions from development to lifecycle management. You collaborate with R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Customer Support to deliver data-driven, compliant packaging strategies. The role focuses on container closure systems, material compatibility, and performance testing for biologics, vaccines, and advanced therapies. Responsibilities
  • Lead evaluation and selection of primary packaging components (stoppers, seals, syringes, cartridges, vials)
  • Design and interpret studies on packaging functionality, compatibility, and stability
  • Provide subject matter expertise on container closure systems for injectable products
  • Evaluate integrity, sealing performance, and robustness of packaging configurations
  • Identify gaps and drive programs for novel containment and delivery solutions across modalities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define packaging requirements based on product and regulatory expectations
  • Author/review technical reports, protocols, risk assessments, and study summaries
  • Assess changes in materials/components for technical impact and compliance risk
  • Drive continuous improvement in test methods and packaging strategies
  • Mentor junior scientists and contribute to cross-project technical workstreams
  • Participate in customer-facing technical discussions and represent packaging science expertise
  • Stay aware of pharmacopeial, industry, and regulatory expectations for primary packaging
Key requirements
  • Ph.D. in related scientific discipline with 4+ years of experience OR Master's degree with 7+ years of experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical primary packaging or related field
  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials (elastomers, polymers, glass) and interactions
  • Experience designing/interpreting laboratory studies and technical evaluations
  • Strong technical writing and cross-functional collaboration skills
