Responsibilities- Perform aerodynamic design activities for assigned projects, optimizing flowpaths of impellers, vanes, compressors, turboexpanders, and related equipment to enhance efficiency and operating range
- Conduct preliminary sizing and performance estimates during proposals, refining analyses through final equipment definitions
- Apply CFD and 1D/2D/3D methods and aerodynamic performance mapping to predict behavior
- Develop and improve aerodynamic tools, sizing methods, and prediction models to increase accuracy and productivity
- Collaborate with aerodynamic, simulation, product, proposals, process, and manufacturing engineers and external software providers
- Share best practices and technical know-how to ensure consistency in high-efficiency designs
- Support new product development and improve existing products for better efficiency, cost, and competitiveness
- Contribute across the lifecycle from testing and data analysis to startup, commissioning, and root-cause analysis
- Apply fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and turbomachinery fundamentals to address complex aerodynamic challenges
- Advocate for aerodynamic considerations while collaborating to optimize overall system solutions
- Promote safety, inclusion, collaboration, and continuous learning in line with Air Products and Rotoflow values
Key requirements- Strong knowledge of turbomachinery aerodynamics, compressible flow, flowpath optimization, and performance prediction
- Experience applying CFD and 1D/2D/3D aerodynamic analysis in turbomachinery environments
- Ability to select appropriate modeling fidelity for design and performance needs
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary setting
- Commitment to knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence
- BS in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline); 5+ years in turbomachinery aerodynamic design
- Experience with aerodynamic design of flowpath components and rotating equipment
- Experience with CFD-based analysis and matching test data to models
- Desirable advanced degree in Fluid Dynamics, Aerodynamics, or Turbomachinery; experience with aerodynamic design and CFD platforms; programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C++, C#, or Fortran
