Overview

The Engineering Rotational Development Program (ERDP) is an entry-level, 12-18 month program that develops engineers through diverse rotations across design, simulation, testing, controls, embedded software, data analytics, and process engineering. You will work on meaningful projects with mentors, bridging concepts to production across Caterpillar's product and technology ecosystem. This program provides hands-on learning, cross-functional exposure, and a pathway to a full-time engineering career at a global leader. Responsibilities
  • Design components and systems across product lines
  • Perform simulations and optimization (CFD/FEA, 3D modelling)
  • Hands-on testing and validation of components and systems
  • Develop and implement control algorithms (Matlab/Simulink)
  • Design and test electronic control modules and PCB layouts
  • Embed software development (C, C++, Python scripts) and software validation
  • Data analytics and machine learning applications in engineering
  • Process engineering to optimize manufacturing and engineering processes
  • Participate in rotations and collaborate across cross-functional teams
Key requirements
  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Agricultural, or Aerospace Engineering; Engineering Technology; or related discipline
  • Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
  • 12 months or less of prior professional work experience (excluding internships)
  • Willingness to relocate and travel
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and learn quickly
