Senior Manager, Cloud Operations Engineering

As Head of Platform Engineering Operations at Appian, you will lead a 11-person DevOps/SRE team focused on Tier 2 operational support for Appian Cloud services. You'll shape onboarding, runbooks, and support documentation to ensure production readiness across features. You'll drive operational hygiene, coordinate across globally distributed teams, and own escalation for complex incidents. This role is pivotal to scaling platform reliability as Appian grows across four continents, delivering robust, well-documented production support.

• Build and lead a multi-engineer Tier 2 operations team for Appian Cloud.
• Define onboarding requirements and production readiness criteria for new features.
• Establish standards ensuring features ship with adequate supportability.
• Serve as escalation point for complex incidents and recovery efforts beyond Tier 1.
• Collaborate with global infrastructure and development teams to ensure documentation and supportability.
• Drive operational hygiene and close gaps in feature supportability for existing services.
• Manage deployments and access for restricted environments (e.g., FedRAMP/GovCloud).
• Mentor team members on DevOps best practices and incident management.

• 7+ years in DevOps, SRE, or production operations with at least 3 years in senior leadership
• 7+ years in Software Engineering with proven delivery
• Hands-on cloud infrastructure experience (AWS strongly preferred), Kubernetes, CI/CD, and IaC
• Proven track record building and leading a DevOps or Tier 2/3 operational team
• Deep experience defining operational onboarding standards for multi-team organizations
• Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident
• Experience with distributed systems at scale and incident coordination (preferred)
• Experience with FedRAMP, GovCloud, or restricted deployments (preferred)
