Overview In this role you will lead the mechanical design of automated manufacturing systems at Anduril, from concept through commissioning. You'll develop system-level designs and run simulations to de-risk concepts for national-scale production automation. You'll create tooling, EOAT, and safety guarding, while collaborating with electrical and controls teams to ensure seamless integration. Responsibilities- Lead mechanical design of automated manufacturing equipment from concept to handover
- Develop system-level designs, simulations, and engineering studies to define equipment requirements
- Perform robotics and equipment simulations including reach studies and architecture development
- Design, build and integrate fixtures, assembly tooling, and EOAT for automation
- Design equipment with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Design and integrate safety guarding, light curtains, interlocks, and other safety components
- Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs
- Select mechanical components (bearings, actuators, gears, fasteners, etc.)
- Perform mechanical analysis (stress, strain, thermal) and oversee prototype fabrication and testing
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues during design, commissioning, and production rollout
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, and robotics engineers for seamless integration
- Lead mechanical design on large/complex automation equipment and mentor junior engineers
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar field
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical design focused on automation, machinery, or robotics
- Strong 3D CAD capability in NX
- Proficient 2D CAD in AutoCAD
- Solid understanding of automation components (linear/rotary actuators, servo motors, VFDs, gears, bearings, pneumatics)
- Experience with machining, welding, sheet metal, and additive manufacturing
- Strong mechanical calculation skills (static/dynamic, material selection)
- Experience with FEA and design simulations to de-risk designs
- Must be a U.S. Person due to access to export-controlled information or facilities
