Senior Electrical Designer - Substation

Overview

In this role you will lead electrical design efforts across diverse projects, delivering schematics, layouts, and construction documents while ensuring compliance with standards. You will guide project teams, review and QA design outputs, and mentor junior staff. The role emphasizes collaboration with clients and cross-functional teams to meet schedules and budgets, shaping electrical solutions for varied facilities. This is an opportunity to drive quality design, leverage advanced 2D/3D tools, and contribute to successful project outcomes on a multi-client portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical project designs including schematics, grid layouts, power systems, lighting, protection and controls, and site/facility design
  • Oversee drawings, planning, development, and production on complex assignments; assess designs and implement redlines for quality
  • Approve reports, drawings, tests, and design codes to meet deliverables and project criteria
  • Ensure design drawings are produced within scope, budget, and schedule; manage revisions and QA/QC processes
  • Train and mentor drafting, detailing, and design staff; support client development and marketing activities
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers in a multi-disciplinary team to resolve design issues
  • Compute conduit/grounding volumes and wiring diagrams under supervision; integrate project criteria and budgets into electrical layouts
  • Ensure adherence to company, client, and project standards and policies
  • Maintain effective communication and documentation across project lifecycles
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in drafting technology or related field or equivalent experience with 13+ years (or Associate's with 14+ years; or 15+ years progressive detailing and design experience)
  • Expert proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel for design deliverables
  • Expert 2D/3D design capabilities and familiarity with electrical design principles and systems
  • Strong ability to learn and apply new design software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team and participate in client meetings
