Overview In this role you will lead the design, development and continuous improvement of mechanical systems for advanced imaging equipment, spanning optomechanical components, motion control and automation. You will contribute to early-stage product development and manufacturing support, shaping high-precision instruments used in life sciences. You'll work in a cross-functional R&D team to deliver reliable, production-ready hardware that enables rapid scientific discovery. This is a hands-on leadership role at the intersection of optics, mechanics and systems engineering.

Responsibilities- Design and improve optomechanical assemblies and components to maintain precise positioning across thermal environments
- Develop and integrate high-resolution motion control systems (linear motors, voice coils, piezo actuators) for automated imaging applications
- Apply SolidWorks for parametric 3D modeling and complex assemblies; utilize GD&T per ASME Y14.5
- Lead system integration, alignment, testing and troubleshooting of complex optomechanical systems
- Design and execute verification protocols; perform DoE to validate performance metrics (repeatability, accuracy, MTBF)
- Provide technical leadership through design reviews, risk assessment (FMEA) and structured problem solving
- Advance early-stage technologies from concept to prototype, through testing and iteration, supporting manufacturing/quality/s service as needed
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years in Research & Development
- Experience in optomechanical assemblies with servo/stepper motion using SolidWorks
- Experience designing and validating fixtures for optical alignment
- Ability to apply analysis, design risk methods and manufacturability principles with leadership in trade-offs and design reviews
