Overview In this role you will support the Carolinas Transportation team as a Project Management Assistant, helping to manage cost, schedule, and project controls data. You will work with cornerstone financial tools, prepare and audit project records, and ensure traceability of information across the project repository. You'll analyze variances, support forecasting, and assist in invoicing and change management to drive on-time, on-budget delivery. This position offers hybrid work from Birmingham, AL and a pathway to impact large-scale infrastructure programs.

Responsibilities- Manage project financial systems and document control, including naming conventions, versioning, approvals, and retention
- Develop proficiency with cornerstone systems and financial tools to produce cost, schedule, and progress data
- Maintain organized project files (budgets, forecasts, trends, change logs, EV reports) with auditable traceability
- Understand financial terminology and reporting requirements; assess downstream impacts of decisions
- Analyze cost, schedule, progress, and productivity data to identify issues, variances, risks
- Assist with accounting concepts related to cost coding, accruals, commitments, and revenue/cost recognition
- Prepare inputs for trending/forecasting and ensure up-to-date baseline alignment
- Provide analysis of progress trends and cost/schedule impacts; support mitigation actions
- Support monthly invoicing by coordinating inputs and validating documentation
- Assist in invoice management and approval processes aligned with contract terms
- Apply EV methodology and maintain EV files including credit rules and progress reconciliation
- Collect and analyze manpower and cost data against budgets; support productivity tracking
- Track costs vs funding; support drawdown reporting and flag overruns
- Monitor POs, subcontracts, change orders, and commitments with proper documentation
- Support scope control and change management by maintaining logs and documenting impacts
- Assist with baseline budgets creation and approval records
- Support schedule control activities and maintain narrative/backup for audit readiness
- Support performance management by reconciling progress, EV, schedule, and cost reports
- Support project reporting by validating data and distributing complete report packages
- Prepare for cost review meetings by presenting variance drivers and recording actions
- Contribute to procedure development and standard project controls templates
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of relevant experience in cost management or project accounting
- Experience in cost control, financial analysis, risk management and reporting in large infrastructure programs
- Proficiency with MS Office and cost management software tools
- Experience implementing and operating Earned Value Management (EVM) in large programs
- Understanding of program controls and interdependencies between cost, schedule, risk, and scope
