Overview Senior Electrical Engineer in HDR's power generation group leads design and engineering efforts for utility-scale and renewable projects. You will mentor engineers, manage client relationships, and contribute to bids and project execution within a culture of employee ownership and inclusion. You'll tackle protection, control, and power systems design, and expand work in renewables and storage. This role blends technical leadership with business development in a global engineering context.
Responsibilities- Lead power generation design projects and act in an Owner's Engineering capacity
- Design and specify power generation, distribution, protection, motor control, and balance-of-plant systems
- Support renewables and BESS projects; participate in field startup and commissioning
- Mentor junior engineers; manage client relationships; contribute to proposals, fee estimates, and WBS
- Deliver engineering design and be a lead/engineer of record on projects
- Collaborate with project management on reviews and management updates
- Engage in cross-disciplinary team leadership within a multi-discipline consulting setting
- Travel less than 10% for site visits and client meetings
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical power generation and renewable energy design
- Professional Engineer license (PE) recognized by local licensing board
- Extensive experience in power market sector project execution
- Proficient in MS Office and power market design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit)
- Strong leadership and ability to work independently or as a team lead
- Experience with field startup and commissioning; DER/microgrid experience desired
