Overview

In this role you provide legal guidance and thought leadership for Citi's Americas Futures and Derivatives Clearing (FDC) business. You will influence strategic decisions, assess regulatory risk, and deliver risk-aware, commercially practical solutions. You collaborate across functions and with external counsel to align legal views with business objectives. You'll handle complex regulatory and contractual issues from onboarding to expansion across exchanges and clearinghouses, shaping how the business operates within a highly regulated environment. This is a high-impact role for a senior attorney who helps the firm navigate evolving laws and industry practices while supporting growth.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel to the FDC business and participate in strategic initiatives
  • Interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, and industry practices relevant to FDC
  • Collaborate with internal lines, control functions, and external counsel for coordinated outcomes
  • Guide business planning with legal expertise and industry knowledge
  • Identify and manage legal, regulatory, and reputational risk with ICRM & Risk
  • Manage day-to-day legal activities as a subject matter expert and advise on complex regulatory and contractual issues
  • Negotiate sophisticated market infrastructure agreements including clearing, execution access, and give-up agreements
  • Escalate issues as appropriate to ensure timely and effective resolution
Key requirements
  • 4-6 years of relevant industry experience in financial services
  • Experience with complex deals and contractual negotiations
  • Experience negotiating on behalf of futures commission merchants, clearing brokers, or exchanges/clearinghouses (preferred)
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry practices affecting financial markets participants
  • Familiarity with CFTC, NFA, exchange, and clearinghouse rules (preferred)
  • Proven ability to advise on complex regulatory matters in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment
  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree
