Overview As an Overhead Line Network Designer, you will shape the design of LV to EHV overhead lines for renewable energy and utility projects. You'll work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver concepts through construction, ensuring compliant, safe, and efficient designs. The role supports Ireland's energy transition by enabling wind, solar, and storage connections at scale. You will engage with clients and stakeholders to align technical solutions with project goals and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities- Prepare LV-EHV overhead line designs, route assessments, and technical reports
- Create design packages for planning, tender, construction, and as-built stages
- Perform pole/tower spotting, sag/tension calculations, conductor selection
- Ensure designs comply with ESB Networks, EirGrid, IEC/ENA standards and regulations
- Support grid connection projects for renewables (wind, solar, battery storage)
- Coordinate design activities across project lifecycle from concept to commissioning
- Manage design changes, RFIs, and technical queries
- Provide technical support to construction and commissioning teams
- Liaise with clients, authorities, landowners, and stakeholders
- Assist with tender input and cost information
- Attend design reviews and project meetings
- Undertake site visits and surveys as required
- Support compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and continuous improvement
Key requirements- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field
- Minimum 3+ years' experience in overhead line design or power engineering
- Experience designing overhead line networks in transmission/distribution environments
- Knowledge of renewable energy infrastructure and grid connection projects
- Experience producing technical drawings and engineering calculations
- Strong understanding of ESB Networks and/or EirGrid design requirements
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
