Overview In this role you drive the formation of a new philanthropic program for the Manning Institute of Biotechnology, aligning donors and partners with UVA's Schools and initiatives. You will shape a comprehensive fundraising strategy, from scholarships to capital build-out, collaborating with leadership and cross-functional teams. You will build and manage major gifts, foundations, and industry partnerships to accelerate translation from lab to clinical trials. Responsibilities- Design and execute a comprehensive development strategy and campaign plan for MIoB that aligns with university priorities
- Set fundraising priorities, goals, metrics, and timelines; partner with MIoB leadership to engage faculty in fundraising
- Manage donor-facing materials, impact reports, and event programming with CI/marketing and UVA Health Development
- Build and steward a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, including individuals, foundations, industry partners, and disease-based organizations
- Personally manage a six- to seven-figure donor portfolio across discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Develop cultivation and engagement strategies tailored to donor motivations and capacity
- Collaborate with Corporate & Foundation Relations on high-level industry partnerships
- Launch and staff an Advisory Board with leaders from industry, philanthropy, science, and policy
- Provide strategic staffing and support to Advisory Board for donor cultivation and governance
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree
- At least five years of fundraising experience
- Proven success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gifts
- Experience in strategic planning and campaign development
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication to translate science for donors
- Ability to work across organizational boundaries and build partnerships
- Strong project management in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
