Overview As a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer at ProMach/Ossid, you lead the design and development of custom and standard packaging machinery from concept to customer delivery. You ensure robust, manufacturable designs aligned with our Engineering Development and Stage Gate processes, collaborating with manufacturing, controls, and service teams. You will drive design ownership, prototype testing, and process improvements to deliver reliable packaging solutions and support business growth. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role with a focus on innovation and quality in automation.

Responsibilities- Lead packaging machine design projects from concept through final testing within the Stage Gate framework
- Develop 3D CAD models, layouts, BOMs and detailed drawings for mechanical systems
- Collaborate across manufacturing, controls, and service to ensure manufacturability and maintenance
- Apply knowledge of machine controls components and automation to inform mechanical design
- Incorporate feedback from colleagues and testing into designs
- Oversee prototype build, debugging, and machine testing
- Ensure designs conform to documentation standards and stage gate requirements
- Mentor engineers and drive process improvements to improve quality and efficiency
- Analyze competitive products for best application use
- Participate in assembly testing to identify improvements
- Apply safety requirements and manage ECNs and related documents
Key requirements- 7+ years of mechanical design experience in packaging machinery or related capital equipment
- Experience managing projects through formal development processes (Stage Gate, VA/VE)
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and PDM/Data Management systems
- Solid understanding of machine controls components and their impact on design (motors, drives, sensors, pneumatics, HMIs, PLC interfaces)
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects
- Self-motivated and adaptable to working independently or in a team
- Comprehensive knowledge of machine and tooling design
- Excellent computer skills (3D CAD and MS Office)
