Overview In this role you will lead civil engineering projects for a 100% employee-owned firm, guiding teams from concept through construction. You'll collaborate with Market Managers to build client relationships while delivering strong technical leadership. You'll work on diverse projects-from stormwater and utility design to campus development-driving quality, compliance, and client value. This is a hands-on leadership position in a collaborative, client-focused culture with meaningful impact on project outcomes.

Responsibilities- Lead project teams on site development and civil design from preliminary through construction stages
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, providing technical guidance and QA/QC oversight
- Collaborate with clients and cross-disciplinary teams to coordinate design and permit processes
- Prepare proposals, present to clients, and participate in contract negotiations
- Ensure regulatory compliance with FEMA, DOT, DNR, and local agencies and manage permit applications
- Support business development through client relationships and opportunity identification
- Contribute to project development planning and coordination with other disciplines
- Drive quality, schedule, and budget adherence across projects
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer license in Minnesota or Illinois
- 10+ years of progressive site development design experience
- 5+ years of project management experience
- 2+ years of business development experience with track record of securing new opportunities
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Ability to coach and mentor staff on design standards, QC, and project management
- QA/QC lead experience on civil projects
- Experience with regulatory agencies and permit processes (FEMA, DOT, DNR, state/local)
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to travel overnight as needed
