Overview

In this role you will lead airfield design from planning to construction, directing multidisciplinary teams to deliver complete engineering packages for airports. You'll ensure design aligns with FAA standards and regulatory constraints while managing complex phasing and long-term infrastructure investments. You will mentor staff and coordinate with clients, authorities, and subconsultants on high-visibility airport projects. This is a chance to shape critical airfield infrastructure for major U.S. airports and broader capital programs.

Responsibilities
  • Lead airfield design from concept through final construction documents
  • Direct multidisciplinary teams to deliver paving, grading, drainage, utilities, lighting, and signage packages
  • Develop and seal construction drawings per FAA Advisory Circulars
  • Coordinate design input across planners, contractors, clients, and subconsultants
  • Translate survey, geotechnical, utility, and sub-surface data into actionable design
  • Integrate FAA design/safety criteria, airport operations constraints, and funding guidelines into all design phases
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff across multiple active project sites
  • Oversee design production using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Ensure design quality, phasing feasibility, and on-time delivery
  • Support stakeholder coordination with FAA, state agencies, airport sponsors, and permitting authorities
Key requirements
  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 10 years of airport/airfield planning or civil engineering design experience or equivalent
  • California PE license or ability to obtain within 12 months (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer license-highly desired
  • Experience leading design of airfield projects from planning through construction
  • Familiarity with FAA AC 150/5300 series
  • Expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D with oversight responsibility
  • Experience working on active airfields with complex phasing and FAA coordination
